Oh heck yes

Enough with the pity posts. I'd like to share some hilarity. (Source: the Onion)

Personally, my fave is number 9. All may feel free to add in their own euphemisms for menstruation. Yes, Tanya... I expect something good from you since you are known for your great maxipad slogan idea.

Nebraska, land of corn

If Sufjan Stevens makes an album about Nebraska, I will not be buying it. I think his 50 albums for 50 states idea is grand and all, but Nebraska is just not worth anyone's time. It's the birthplace of both of my parents-- and I suppose I should acknowledge that as significant, but you know-- I still think that as a driver, and as a human being, I must also acknowledge it as the embodiment of BORING. End Nebraska rant.

Yes folks, I'm blogging from the wonderful state of Nebraska. My great aunt's funeral was Tuesday in Lincoln, and my grandma's is today in an itty bitty town called Wayne. It's been nice to see my family-- immediate and extended-- even if it has been a bit overwhelming at times. I'm headed back to the cities today so that I can recoup for a full day before I go back to work, since I managed to get Friday off. It will be nice to get back to a normal life where I don't need to travel on all of my days off.

2 funerals, no weddings

Maybe this weight was a gift/Like I had to see what I could lift -- Nada Surf

Life has been cruel and unusual for the past 48 hours. My great Aunt Dorothy is in the hospital and should pass away within days, hours, or minutes. She is more or less a Grandma to me, as she raised my mom and I have had no living grandparents on that side in my lifetime. She's 90, she lived a full life, and she has been looking forward to seeing many of her friends and family in heaven. But it is nonetheless difficult for my family, especially my mom who has taken care of her for the past few years.

To top things off, yesterday my Grandma Forney died in North Carolina. This was a long time coming, but nonetheless unfortunate to have to happen now. She wasn't herself for the past year or so due to very abruptly diagnosed and rapidly progressing Alzheimer's. It was her time to go.

I'm feeling fine today. I drove home to be with my family and at the hospital since I have today and tomorrow off of work. I don't know how I'll be tomorrow, or when Dorothy dies, or when I have to deal with two funerals in such a short period of time. We'll see. Please pray for my family if you have the chance.

I didn't start the fire

Greetings loyal blogees. I am enjoying a wonderful day off of work, hanging out in my air-conditioned apartment. It's quite lovely. Sometimes I prefer to talk about my life in bullet points. And today that's exactly what I feel like doing.

  • My building caught on fire the other day. It was fairly exciting. I heard fire alarms and contemplated whether or not I wanted to go outside (this is what happens when you live on Bethel's campus for a couple years... fire alarms lose their pizazz). Then I stuck my head out in to the hallway and smelled/saw smoke, so I figured it might be a good idea. Turns out some bushes and possibly part of the outside of an apartment had caught on fire. It was quickly contained and we were allowed back inside in time for me to get to work on time. Plus, I got to see some big trucks and hot firefighters. Always a good thing.
  • I still love my job, but am slowly adjusting to working more with the girls. I definitely prefer working with the guys. Mostly because many of the young ladies tend to be more defiant, and a few even remind me of myself as a teen. Ugh.
  • I didn't realize until recently how much I missed the socialization aspect of work. Working at ACR, I would only come into contact with my co-workers at the beginning and end of my shift. I am so thankful to not only have co-workers, but awesome ones at that. I've been really fortunate to be working with people I get along with so well.
  • I've gone out on some good dates with a nice boy as of late. That's all there is to say about that.
  • I recently made a purchase that I'm really happy with. (Click here to see)... It's fairly uncomfortable to have a hot computer in your lap, especially during the summer months. If this is an issue for you too, the purchase might be worth it.

One big girl bed, please

So I want to buy a bed. Actually, I want to buy a big girl bed. You know, the adult kind that you can sprawl out on and can offer to guests. The kind that doesn't make you feel 11 years old. I really want a nice, plush queen. I also really want to still be able to make my school loan payments. So something under $500 would be nice. I've been to the slumberland clearance center and found only one in my price range that I liked. But really, after taxes and delivery, it wouldn't be in my price range so much anymore. To be fair though, the guy said that they were picked over and usually have a larger selection. Anyone have suggestions or tips?

Other than the impending purchase of a big girl bed, there is little news in my life. Work is awesome, life is a-okay, and I'm working hard to look more often on the brighter side of things.
