All growed up, sort of

I'm in love with my job. The evening shift fits me perfectly. I can't believe how fortunate I am to have a job I love this much.

I am learning to wear heels. Short heels, but still, heels. My record so far is 2 weeks without tripping-- that's improvement!

I didn't get the Bean, he's already been adopted. I put in a new application for a female Boston Terrier at a different shelter. I'm trying not to get my hopes up... getting a boston may be a longer process than I was anticipating.

I was rejected for the individual health insurance I applied for. I'm not covered under my job since I am per diem. Apparently overweight smokers with a history of depression are too much of a financial liability for this particular health insurer. I'm applying with Blue Cross of CA, which I probably have a better chance with anyway. Gotta love the U.S. health care system.

What do I want to be when I grow up? Lately, I've been thinking about becoming an interventionist. Don't get me wrong, I plan to stay at this job for awhile. But I'm always thinking ahead, and this idea just might stick. So, this means that in the next year or two I'll be working on getting my CAADAC (California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors) licensure and then possibly my certification to become an board registered interventionist. I know for sure that I'm going to work for my CAADAC, because I can take it through my job for next to nothing, and even though I don't want to be a counselor it will help me wherever I want to go career-wise within the chemical dependency field.

The heat wave out here is passing. I'm working a bit on my garden and patio area, swimming, and doing some small projects around the house.

I'm getting the travel itch. If I can save up my pennies, I might be going to visit Ashley in Hawaii in March for my birthday/spring break. Other than that, a weekend trip out to LA or San Diego might have to do for now. I know that sounds like I'm complaining... believe me, I'm not :)

Sometimes I can't believe my own life.

Meet the Bean

I've known that I want to adopt a dog FOREVER... and after tons of time researching breeds and shelters, I may have found the right dog for me. I turned in an adoption application, and we'll see how it goes from there. The little guy's name is Bean. He's a 2-3 year old purebred Boston Terrier. If I get him, I'm pretty sure I'll be renaming him, and I'm looking for input!

Also, I think it's worth noting that Charlie is the name of the dog from the movie All Dogs Go to Heaven, and of course Bartholomew Cubbins and his many hats is from a Dr. Seuss classic... the rest of the names have very little sentimental meaning, I just like em a lot.

101 and new job updates

I'm still keeping to my 101 things in 1001 days, though I may have to tweak some of them a bit since I've relocated. A few of the goals I've achieved:

24. Have a "toss/give-away/donate" day for clothes/shoes
25. Sell all old books/textbooks
50. Give up alcohol for one month
62. Go skinny dipping (I count the hot springs at Esalen on this one)
63. Visit a hookah bar
71. Move out of state
73. Go for a hike at a State Park
87. Vacation somewhere I have never been

In other news, things are still going well here. I spent the fourth of July with my neighbors and had a nice time cooking out and watching Clue. Today my neighbor Jen is going to help me put up a misting system, which will help cool down my patio. I'm excited about that!

My job is going well so far. This past week I worked the night shift, which they start everyone out on. It was not my favorite... lots of filing and paperwork. Luckily they are switching me to the evening shift for the next two weeks and it looks like that is where I'll stay for a while. It's a different environment; more professional than I'm used to, but I am adjusting.

Hope you all had a great fourth!
